What is Mother’s Day? Well, in case you don’t know, let me tell you. Mother’s Day is celebrated every year, usually in May, to honor and appreciate mothers and mother figures. The holiday actually started in the United States and was created by Anna Jarvis in the early 1900s. She wanted a day to recognize the sacrifices mothers make for their children. Over time, it became an official holiday and spread to other countries. Today, it reminds people to slow down and really think about how much their moms mean to them. Biological or not, mother figures are all around us and it’s important to show love to them too!

If you don’t know what to get your mom, don’t worry! Some ideas range from store bought to homemade. You can get your mother some flowers, getting her favorite would show how you pay attention to her. Jewelry is also a good gift, but the question is, gold or silver? Some homemade ideas are letters, people love hearing about how much they are loved and appreciated. Even if flowers might be out of price range, there are lots of videos on the internet where you can learn to make flowers out of ribbon and pipe cleaners. Some more ideas include:

  • Chocolates

  • Shoes

  • Clothes

  • And the greatest gift of all, love!

Don’t think that spending money is the only way to give back. Something as simple as spending time with them can be the greatest way. As well as watching a movie together, taking her out of the house, and even doing chores without being told.  Help her cook dinner, or even better cook HER dinner.  Small actions can make big differences and create special memories. Overall, it’s all about showing appreciation and love.

Now let’s introduce our moms!:

This is Libier Ledezma, who is Mariana Saldivar’s mom. My mom is a really strong and intelligent person, especially emotionally intelligent. She’s taught me a lot of good lessons in life, from real estate advice to friend advice. But the greatest lesson she’s taught me is to always be kind to everyone, even if it's hard. Not only is she a great person, but also a great cook; don’t get me started on her ceviche!

My mom means so much to me because she is always there for me no matter what. She works hard every day and still finds ways to support, care for, and love our family. I appreciate all the sacrifices she makes and the way she always encourages me to do my best. She is one of the strongest people I know, and I am grateful for everything she has done for me. Mother’s Day is a reminder of how lucky I am to have such a loving and caring mom in my life.
