On January 6, 2021, the United States capitol was violently attacked during the certification of the presidential election. This event shocked the nation and raised real, serious questions about just democracy, political division, and accountability in America.

On January 6 2021, so many people in Washington DC, many of whom supported the then president Donald Trump. As Congress met to certify the results of the 2020 election, parts of the crowd stormed to the U.S Capital building. Lawmakers were forced to evacuate, and the process was temporarily halted.

And because of the riot, lawmakers had to leave the building for their safety. Police tried to stop the crowds but many just ended up hurt and injured. The Capital building did get damaged and many people sadly died in this event. The riot was shown on TV and watched by people around the world; it was such a big event.

After the attack, police and the government just started to investigate what happened because, again, so many people were hurt throughout this whole thing. It was something really serious. Hundreds of people were just arrested and charged with crimes. Leaders wanted to understand how the riot happened and how we as a community prevent something like this to happen again.
Today, the January 6 attacks are still spoken about, even the news still covers it and in the government. But this just shows how split the country has become. It also reminded people why following the law and accepting election results is very important in the future but this was definitely something sad that happened.
