We will explain what emulation is and what its purpose is. We also will explain what the difference is between pirating & emulation. Being able to preserve older games with their discontinued consoles gives us the ability to emulate them over to modern computers. Therefore not letting those pieces of history go to waste. Games like Tetris and the Oregon Trail are fascinating games that would have been lost over time. Being able to emulate them allows us to preserve these older titles.

Why is it important? It is important for preservation. Consoles degrade overtime which at some point will cause some games to be nearly unplayable on original hardware. But emulators allow people to play these games on modern computers like phones, laptops or pc’s.

Is it illegal or immoral? No emulation is not illegal, piracy is illegal. The creators of these emulators make it very clear. You can legally extract games that you bought despite what some companies say.

What is the difference between piracy and emulation? Emulation is closely tied to piracy for some people. You can get other people's games online so it’s often used to pirate games. But that doesn’t mean that emulation is illegal if you extract your own game that you bought then it’s fine.
