Thursday, October 23rd, 2025 in Alameda near Coast Guard Island, a protest erupted over a federal immigration deployment, leading to clashes between demonstrators and federal agents. Reports indicated that the protests became heated,including a shooting incident late that night where Coast Guard police fired at a U-Haul truck, resulting in two injuries.Two people were injured, including the driver of the truck and a bystander. Both individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver was taken into custody after being released from the hospital. The situation highlights the deep divisions and strong emotions surrounding immigration enforcement policies in the Bay Area. It's a reminder of how sensitive and impactful these issues are on local communities.

Two areas of the Bay Area Woodside and Lafayette have experienced a small series of earthquakes, this has recently been reported today this afternoon October 23, 2025. Several started to occur between 3:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. These tremors, while not large enough to cause major damage, were still felt by some residents in the area. Seismologists are currently monitoring the situation to determine if these events are part of a large pattern or just isolated occurrences. This is a reminder that the Bay area is located in an active seismic zone, the region is crisscrossed by many active fault lines, including the San Andreas, Hayward, and Calaveras faults, this highlights the ongoing risk of earthquakes. I am wondering if these small shakes are a sign that a bigger one may be on its way.
